Restorative Dentistry
Grovefield Dental Surgery & North Norfolk Dental Implant Centre prides itself in high-quality dentistry for the whole family. We carry out routine examinations, usually at six monthly intervals, where we will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, jaw and surrounding soft tissues. During these check ups we will discuss any necessary treatments and can make appointments in the near future to carry these out.
If patients ever experience any problems between their routine examinations, a quick phone call can arrange a prompt emergency appointment.
Hygienist Appointments
At Grovefield Dental Surgery & North Norfolk Dental Implant Centre we recommend routine appointments with one of our Dental Hygienists. It is very important to maintain healthy gums, as they are the foundations of a healthy mouth. The main role of a Hygienist is prevention, she can give you tailor made oral hygiene advice. The Hygienist also removes plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease and tooth decay.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is a more common cause of death in the UK than testicular and cervical cancer combined so ‘early detection’ saves lives. At Grovefield Dental Surgery & North Norfolk Dental Implant Centre we use every check up appointment to thoroughly inspect all of the soft tissues in and around the mouth.
Common early symptoms in the mouth are non-healing ulcers, red or white patches or any other unusual changes inside the mouth.
Common risk factors are smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, chewing tobacco or a poor diet… “If in doubt – get yourself checked out!”
Filling
There are many different types of dental filling available, and at Grovefield Dental Sugery we will discuss with you the best type of repair for your tooth and will offer you a tooth-coloured repair whenever possible. Today’s modern tooth coloured filling materials can be used to repair teeth and rebuild chipped corners invisibly. They are also ideal for replacing old amalgam fillings and can dramatically improve the look of heavily repaired teeth.
Many super tooth coloured fillings, inlays and crowns are now available and we can maintain a natural appearance to your teeth even if you do need a lot of fillings and repairs.'
Dentures

Dentures (false teeth) are a useful tool when filling gaps , particularly when a number of teeth are missing. There are 2 types – acrylic and cobalt chrome. The chrome dentures are less bulky and ‘clip’ on to remaining teeth for stability.
Crowns
Crowns (also referred to as ‘caps’) are indicated when a lot of tooth
substance has been lost for example where a tooth has a large filling or has been root filled. They are made by preparing the tooth to a peg shape, taking a mould of the tooth and the laboratory technician constructing a tooth shaped ‘shell’ to fit over the prepared tooth – restoring it’s form and appearance.
Sometimes if a great deal of tooth substance is lost a post crown is used. This is a tooth replica, which is held in place by a post/peg in the root of a root filled tooth. Crowns can also be used for purely cosmetic reasons. To disguise discoloured teeth or make teeth appear straighter.
LOST A TOOTH?

Many people have gaps in their mouth where teeth have been previously removed and there are several options for filling these gaps.
Bridges are porcelain or ceramic teeth that attach to adjacent teeth either via a crown around the adjacent tooth or by sticking on the back of adjacent teeth. These are most suitable for small gaps.
Implants can be used to fill any size of gap and consist of titanium screws that are placed in the bone and act as a new tooth root. Porcelain or ceramic crowns are then placed on top of the implant.
Each option has it’s own merits and are more suitable for certain patients. A consultation with a dentist will enable a full range of options suitable to you to be presented and thoroughly explained.
